WUSD announces Horrocks as the new assistant principal for Mattie Washburn Elementary

PRESS RELEASE

Windsor, Calif.—The Windsor Unified School District (WUSD) is pleased to announce that Amanda Horrocks will be the new assistant principal for Mattie Washburn Elementary (MWE) for the 2026-27 school year. Horrocks comes to MWE from the Kittredge School in San Francisco after a varied teaching career.

Horrocks comes to Windsor with a deep-rooted passion for elementary education. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Purdue University.

“Over the past 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching students in grades 1-4 across Indiana, California, and even spent a year teaching in England,” Horrocks said. “Beyond the classroom, I’ve spent three years as an instructional coach and one year as an assistant principal, which allowed me to see firsthand how vital strong leadership is to student success.”

“Amanda is going to be an amazing addition to Mattie Washburn,” said Superintendent Jeremy Decker. “‘She has a broad range of knowledge and that genuine love for kids, and a deep commitment to positive outcomes for all learners.”

When she considers her goals for her position at Mattie, she is focused on relationships with all stakeholders. “I hope to foster a collaborative environment where teachers, parents, and students feel heard and supported,” she said. “My goal is to build strong, transparent relationships that ensure our school is a place where every child feels safe to take risks and every educator has the tools to thrive.”

“In a pool of exceptionally strong candidates, Amanda stood out,” Director of Human Resources Pete Sullivan said. “Her experience, attitude and dedication were apparent throughout the hiring process, and I’m excited that she will have the opportunity to support the students, families and staff of MWE.”

Horrocks and her family moved to California in 2020, and she lives in Petaluma with her husband and 17-year-old daughter, as well as two dogs and a cat. She loves to spend time hiking with her dog, enjoying live music, or being lost in a good book.

“I am so excited to introduce myself as your new assistant principal,” Horrocks said. “I am looking forward to meeting all of you and getting to work for our students.”

Horrocks’ new post will begin on July 1, and Windsor Unified School District is excited to welcome Horrocks to Mattie Washburn Elementary School and looks forward to all that she brings to the role.
